Set on six acres of redwoods, gardens, and open land in Scotts Valley, Chez Serendip is a living sanctuary shaped by the land, the seasons, and the people who care for it. People come here to rest, create, and reconnect.
Staying here invites a slower pace. Mornings unfold without urgency. Days leave room for wandering the forest trails, writing, listening, or simply being outside. Evenings often arrive with fog drifting through the trees, warm light indoors, and the feeling that time has softened.

What it means to stay here
Chez Serendip is a living place, not a static destination. It is cared for daily by people who live and work on the land, alongside animals, gardens, and creative spaces that are actively in use.
As a guest, you are welcomed into this rhythm with respect and flexibility. Your privacy is honored, and your presence is valued. Some guests enjoy light conversation when paths cross. Others prefer to keep to themselves and simply enjoy the land. Both are completely welcome.

We offer a small number of distinct places to stay, each with its own character and rhythm. All options include access to the land, trails, and shared outdoor spaces, while maintaining a sense of privacy and ease.
Optional experiences during your stay
Some guests come to Chez Serendip to rest and do very little. Others enjoy enriching their stay with optional experiences curated from our extended community.
These may include bodywork, sound healing, gentle movement, private meals, creative sessions, time with the horses, or guided experiences on the land. Family-friendly offerings for children are also available.
All experiences are optional, seasonal, and coordinated with care. There is never an expectation to participate.
Your stay funds free art for the community.
The land is operated by Chez Serendip Estate, and the income from your visit flows to the Chez Serendip Foundation, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which turns it into free and sliding-scale programs: artist residencies, community concerts, and youth music, with every facilitator paid first.
So when you stay here, you are not only resting among the redwoods. You are helping keep this land open to artists and neighbors who could not otherwise afford it. Every booking helps carry the mission forward.
